Course Description:
The demand for trades workers continues to climb as almost half of the workforce will be eligible to retire in the next few years. This course will explain what an apprenticeship is, what you need to become an apprentice, education requirements and provide an overview of some of the most common trades.
Skilled trades present a lot of exciting opportunities to grow and advance in a field where you have an opportunity to “earn while you learn” as you build your skills and work towards becoming a journeyperson.
Learning Outcomes:
Because everyone’s personal situation varies, the path to apprenticeship is not always clear. At the end of this course participants will have learned:
- The various options out there for apprentices (over 140 different occupations in which you can complete an apprenticeship and more than 50 for which you can gain Red Seal designation)
- Apprenticeship terminology, pathways, options for financial assistance at both the federal and provincial level
- Clarification about the different ways to enter a chosen trade (including college courses, upgrading, pre-apprenticeship programs, training programs through chosen unions)
